“It is with the deepest sadness that we must report Mayor Rick Hogaboam experienced a medical emergency tonight and has passed away. We ask the community to please keep his family and loved ones in your prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” the City of Nampa wrote on Facebook.
“As we begin to mourn this unbelievable loss, please provide grace while we navigate the loss of not only our Mayor, but also our friend,” it continued.
More from the New York Post:
The Treasure Valley Partnership town hall meeting was adjourned as the politician was being treated by cops, fire crews and medics who rushed to the scene.
Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful and Hogaboam died — just over two months after being sworn in as mayor of Nampa, located west of Boise.
He prevailed in November’s election with 62.86 percent of the vote, defeating three rivals and becoming Nampa’s 31st mayor in the process.
Hogaboam, known for his love of the Buffalo Bills, moved from western New York to Nampa in 2008. He later served as chief of staff to former Mayor Debbie Kling, his predecessor, for almost four years.
He had previously served as a city councilman, a substitute Idaho state senator, and the Canyon County clerk, a job in which he was responsible for the county’s budget and elections.
Hogaboam’s office has described his death as an “unbelievable loss” while the Idaho House Republicans described him as someone who was “more than a public servant.”
“The need was to take care of Rick and he got immediate support,” Pike said, according to NBC News.
“Good, bad or indifferent, I was the last person in his life that was touching him when he passed,” he added.

NBC News shared further:
Hogaboam’s death was met with an outpouring of condolences by public officials and departments across the state, including Idaho Gov. Brad Little.
“Heartbreaking to hear of the sudden loss of Nampa Mayor Rick Hogaboam,” Little wrote in a post on X. “Rick served with a real heart for public service and dedication to the community. His family, city staff, and the Nampa community are in my prayers.”
Former Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling, who decided against running for re-election last year, said she was “extremely grieved” to hear of her successor’s death, according to KTVB.
“He has an amazing wife and young family, who we need to keep in our prayers,” Kling said. “Rick was such a smart, talented leader, who will be greatly missed.”
The Caldwell Police Department described Hogaboam as a “pillar of the community” who dedicated his life to service in a Facebook post on Wednesday night.
“Rick was a servant leader and beyond his professional life, Rick was an amazing father and husband,” the statement said. “Rick’s legacy will live forever and his passion for public service and non-profit work will never be forgotten.”
