Ella Langley Finds Herself On Introspective New Single, “Loving Life Again”
Ella Langley’s highly anticipated sophomore album, Dandelion, will be out in less than a month on April 10th, and she has one more single for fans to hear before it’s out.
The Alabama native has no doubt had a whirlwind of the last two years. Since winning her first CMA Award for her duet with Riley Green for “You Look Like You Love Me,” she has been on a nonstop roll. That duet not only swept awards season but led Langley into her next major hit, “Choosin’ Texas,” which served as the lead single for her next chapter of music following Hungover.
The single, co-written with Miranda Lambert, Joybeth Taylor, and Luke Dick, has become nothing short of a cultural phenomenon at this point, going #1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks now and allowing Langley to become just the seventh female artist IN HISTORY to go #1 on the Hot 100 with a country song.
The catchy tune undoubtedly set a high precedent for what’s to come from Langley’s sophomore record, and the singles she has released thus far have delivered. Taking a step back from the rock and roll Stevie Nicks-like edge she’s had recently, Langley has shared her heart with fans on songs like “Dandelion” and “Be Her,” admitting some of her flaws and how she’s struggled with the changes life has recently brought her.
And today, on the final single before the record, “Loving Life Again,” Langley is revisiting a dark time in her career, where she felt like she was underwater, leading her to step away from touring last year. Similar to “Dandelion,” the introspective tune feels breezy and calm, like tall blades of grass swaying in the wind on a slow, sunny summer afternoon.
Langley has been playing this tune for fans, debuting the song while performing at Bulls, Bands & Barrels in Bossier City, Louisiana. Before performing the single, Langley took a second to thank her fans for making all of her dreams come true. Despite her fame, she’s remained truly humble and expresses her gratitude for the opportunity to live out her childhood dreams every day. But Langley faced some hardships last year, prompting her to step away from music and touring to rediscover herself and reconnect with who she truly is.
Langley shared with her fans that during her downtime, she was inspired to create this song, reflecting on the things that help her reconnect with her roots.
“This next song I’m about to play is on the record. It’s probably the…one of the most sentimental. I went through a time and a half last year. I took a couple of weeks off, and I got to refine myself. I got to have a lot of talks with the Lord, and I got to be re-grateful for all of the things that he’s given me. So on this song, it’s called ‘Loving Life Again.’”
I was in love with this song from hearing it live, and I love it even more hearing the studio cut.
The cadence of the single falls right in line with that “Sunday afternoon” vibe that Langley hoped to set with this record. Penned alongside Ernest and Devin Dawson, the songwriting is profound yet simple, conveying a feeling everyone can relate to. We’ve all faced hardships that have brought out a side you don’t love, and it takes time and hard work to get back to a place of peace, loving who you are and the life you are living.
“Just like that, I’m back to loving life again
Dreaming dreams about back home riding on the wind
When I close my eyes, I find some peace in the back of my mind
In between them pines where I’m jumping on that quartеr horse, and then
Just like that, I’m back to loving lifе again…”
Langley’s Alabama roots are woven throughout the song’s lyrics, and you can feel how her home is a sacred place for her and her mental health. “Loving Life Again” is a reminder we all need to slow down and find the joy in our daily lives.
Miss Langley did it again with this one. Turn this one all the way up.
