Police say Webber was in his Tesla SUV when he shot Wells in the passenger seat. He then pulled over and asked two backseat passengers to help pull Wells out of the car. They refused and got out of the car before calling the police. Webber then fled the scene with Wells still in the car. Wells’ body was then found in a yard on Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall, MD. Wells was pronounced dead at the scene. Webber was located by police at a hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was arrested and charged as a fugitive from justice. He’ll be extradited to Charles County and charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder and other charges. ESPN did a feature on Webber in 2023, highlighting his inspirational story. “At 10 months old Dayton Webber was given a 3% chance to live. To save his life and stop a deadly infection from spreading, doctors amputated both of his arms and legs. Now the 25-year-old is the first quadruple amputee in the American Cornhole League’s history,” ESPN wrote at the time. Following his arrest in Charlottesville, the American Cornhole League released a statement on social media. “The ACL is aware of the reports regarding allegations involving Dayton Webber. This is an extremely serious matter and our thoughts are with all those impacted, including the family and loved ones of Bradrick Michael Wells. At this time, this remains an active legal situation. We respect the judicial process and will not comment on specific allegations or details while proceedings are ongoing. We will provide updates if and when it is appropriate to do so, but in the meantime, the league will have no further comment.”
