“I’m Not Going Anywhere” – GOP Senator Shoots Down Rumor Of Possibly Becoming Attorney General
Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) squashed rumors that he could potentially become the next attorney general after Pam Bondi’s ouster.
“Some senators are pushing the White House to appoint Sen. Mike Lee as Attorney General following Bondi’s ouster and plan to pitch Trump directly on the idea, sources told me,” NOTUS reporter Reese Gorman said.

More from The Salt Lake Tribune:
Utah’s senior U.S. senator, Mike Lee — a Tea Party Republican who went from trying to stop the GOP from nominating Trump in 2016 to later comparing the impeached president to “Book of Mormon” hero Captain Moroni — is being floated by some as a potential attorney general pick.
Several of Lee’s colleagues in the Senate would like Lee, an attorney, to be Trump’s next top law enforcement official, NOTUS reported.
The White House did not respond to NOTUS’s request to comment on senators pitching Lee as a potential nominee.
The Utah senator was shortlisted, but not picked, during Trump’s first term as a Supreme Court justice nominee.
Both Lee and Utah Sen. John Curtis voted to confirm Bondi as attorney general. Trump’s next nominee will also have to be approved in the narrowly divided U.S. Senate.
“So many anonymous Senators immediately running to the media trying to get Mike Lee out of the Senate is just proof that Mike Lee needs to stay in the Senate,” Greg Price commented.
“I’m not going anywhere,” Lee said in response to the rumors.

ABC4 Utah shared further:
Earlier in the day, Sen. Lee’s chief strategist, Dan Hauser, had also fired back on the report: “The Venn diagram of the ‘anonymous’ senators who ran to the media griping about how Senator Lee wanted to be working through recess, using the talking filibuster or making them act conservatively and those that would like for him to be nominated as the next AG is a circle,” he wrote.
In other words, the very senators quietly pushing for Lee to become AG are the same ones who have leaked negative stories about him to the press.
This is not the first time that Lee’s name has been floated for AG. In 2023, there were reports that allies of Trump had suggested Lee for Attorney General, among other possibilities.
President Trump has said that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will be serving as acting AG until a permanent replacement is named.
