7 Ways to Commemorate Memorial Day

As a child, I have faint memories of going with my parents and grandparents to decorate family members’ graves on Memorial Day. Dressed in my Easter attire, bonnet, gloves, and dress, holding my grandparents’ hands, not understanding the significance of what it meant to them and other family members, but experiencing the comfort and peace it brought in being a part of the day’s event.Whether my parents and grandparents understood it at the time or not, it also taught me early on in my life about the sanctity of life, about respecting and honoring those who had lived and died before me, and to recognize how men and women had served our country and given their lives for our nation.Created by a holy, perfect God, human life is sacred, as described in Genesis 1:27, “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.”Each person receives God’s breath of life. As Genesis 2:7 describes, “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”Photo Credit: ©GettyImages/kieferpix
