United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing After Alleged Attempted Hijacking
A United Airlines flight bound for Minneapolis from Chicago made an emergency landing in Wisconsin after an alleged “unruly passenger” attempted to gain access to the cockpit.
“An attempted hijacking was reported aboard a United Airlines Boeing 737-924(ER) aircraft (N69818) traveling from Chicago to Minneapolis, transmitted squawk code 7500. The United Airlines flight 2005 from Chicago O’hare (ORD) to Minneapolis (MSP) diverted to Madison, WI (MSN) after a level 4 security incident occurred on board,” aviation news page ‘FL360aero’ wrote.
“The plane transmitted squawk code 7500 during the incident, the internationally recognized emergency signal for a hijacking. Law enforcement on board the aircraft subdued the subject until landing where the aircraft was met by additional law enforcement,” it added.

The FBI and police responded to reports of a security concern with the passenger, who was detained by police at the Dane county regional airport in Madison, Wisconsin.
The flight continued its journey to Minneapolis, landing early on Saturday morning, according to FlightAware data. There were no reported injuries among the 147 passengers and six crew members onboard the flight.
A United spokesperson said flight 2005 “landed safely in Madison … to address a security concern with an unruly passenger”.
According to PEOPLE, the passenger was allegedly “ranting in Russian” and caused a struggle on the plane.
The aircraft was carrying 147 passengers and six crew members on board.
There were no reported injuries.

According to FlightRadar24, the squawk code 7500 signal “allows the pilots to contact Air Traffic Control discreetly.”
“What happens after this code is transmitted varies, but usually, security forces tend to get involved. The process, which is depicted in movies and TV, is an escort by military aircraft and authorities may also be waiting upon arrival,” the website states.
Federal authorities are investigating the incident, per WMTV. The DCRA continued normal operations after the passenger’s arrest.
