Eugene Daniels Touts Radical Talarico as ‘Middle of the Road’
Barely a week after his contentious nomination as Democratic Texas Senate candidate, James Talarico is now being hailed a moderate, middle of the road candidate by the media. On MS NOW’s Ana Cabrera Reports this Tuesday, senior Washington reporter Eugene Daniels was enthused about Talarico’s chances of winning, citing Republican candidate Ken Paxton’s issues around corruption and, strangely enough, Talarico’s moderate stances.
Ever since his victory in the Democratic primaries, Talarico has been under heavy fire for his radical stances, especially from Paxton, his opponent in the elections, but Daniels still thinks he has a chance:
This is like, sometimes they get really excited, right? We've had these kind of conversations before, but when I talk to folks who are on the ground in Texas, especially Democrats who have been like Lucy with the football, over and over again, in Texas, they are starting to really actually believe they have a chance. They always believed that John Cornyn was going to be a little bit tougher to beat. But with Ken Paxton, is what they tell me about the campaign and their allies, that he's easier to kind of tell voters who he is.
Going further, Daniels later hyped up Talarico’s chances by claiming he was a sort of moderate:
And folks feel like Talarico and his kind of being in the middle of the road, it seems, much more moderate than Beto O'Rourke, then that might be- they might be able to sell that. And the fact that he talks about being a Christian, and this is, of course, Texas.
Maybe MS NOW’s deceptive and heavily biased coverage regarding the Texas Senate race misled Mr. Daniels? To clear up the image, here are the facts: Talarico espouses radical views on gender, claiming that there are six genders. He maintains misleading theology, claiming that God is “non-binary”. He is opposed to voter identification requirements, and has defended “gender-affirming” surgeries for children in Texas before lying about it in an interview.
Not exactly more moderate than O’Rourke, and definitely not middle of the road! This misleading portrayal of Talarico’s chances by Daniels and MS NOW was a disservice to their viewers, and flies in the face of proper and fair journalism. Of course, proper and fair journalism was never MS NOW’s first priority.

ANA CABRERA: Eugene, do Dems really have a chance in deep red Texas?
EUGENE DANIELS: Maybe? This is like, sometimes they get really excited, right? We've had these kind of conversations before, but when I talk to folks who are on the ground in Texas, especially Democrats who have been like Lucy with the football over and over again in Texas, they are starting to really actually believe they have a chance. They always believed that John Cornyn was going to be a little bit tougher to beat. But with Ken Paxton, is what they tell me about the campaign and their allies, that he's easier to kind of tell voters who he is.
James Talarico jumped into the race for the primary in Texas talking about corruption. And that is an easier brush to paint on Ken Paxton than it is on someone like John Cornyn. Ken Paxton doesn't have the decades-long infrastructure, politically, that John Cornyn has. There's little things like that that are important.
It's also the question about Donald Trump. And you see, especially Latinos moving back toward the center, not just because of immigration, but because of the economy and how much money they feel is leaving their pockets. Those are the kinds of things that create an environment that could work.
And folks feel like Talarico and his kind of being in the middle of the road, it seems, much more moderate than Beto O'Rourke, then that might be- they might be able to sell that. And the fact that he talks about being a Christian, and this is, of course, Texas.
