Former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis are among six defendants facing charges in an alleged sports gambling scheme that targeted at least four games in the 2023-2024 season. “Today, FBI New York and @EDNYnews – with the assistance of @FBICharlotte, @FBILosAngeles, @FBIOmaha, @FBIChicago, and @FBILasVegas – announced an indictment against former NBA players Malik Beasley and Edward Davis along with four other co-conspirators for their alleged roles in a scheme to bribe Malik Beasley to manipulate his performance in NBA games and use inside information about Beasley’s intended performance to profit via illegal betting activity,” FBI New York stated. It is merely a charge of probable cause,” Haney said in a statement to ESPN. “The investigation was a year and a half long and we maintain Malik’s innocence of all charges.” According to the indictment, Beasley lost millions of dollars gambling during his nine-year NBA career. He agreed to manipulate his statistics ahead of at least four games during the 2023-24 season while he was with the Milwaukee Bucks so that the co-conspirators could wager on the stats, according to the indictment. The indictment included examples of wagers totaling more than $75,000 with net winnings of at least $121,000. Beasley received bribes from co-conspirators, often used to reduce or pay off debts he owed Davis, prosecutors allege in the indictment. The two were teammates on the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2020-21 season. Davis was known in the scheme as Beasley’s “gatekeeper,” prosecutors allege. “Only way you can beat Vegas is sports betting,” Davis allegedly texted Beasley in December 2023, according to the indictment. “We can make some good money,” he allegedly added. “Bribery and insider betting schemes like this one involving former NBA players … who exploited inside NBA information for profit erode the integrity of American sports and victimize the sports-watching public,” said U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr., according to NBC News. Former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis have been indicted in the latest round of charges in the government’s widening gambling investigation, authorities said Monday. https://t.co/vyVHclIeva — Spectrum News 13 (@MyNews13) June 29, 2026 NBC News has more: “We are in the process of reviewing the federal indictment unsealed today involving Malik Beasley and Ed Davis,” said Mike Bass, an NBA spokesman. “We will continue to investigate this matter and cooperate with the relevant authorities.” Bass added, “We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness, and the integrity of our game remains our top priority.” Prosecutors detailed at least four games in which the defendants allegedly schemed to have Beasley manipulate individual game stats for the benefit of gamblers. Beasley allegedly told other defendants to bet on him securing less than 3.5 rebounds during the Bucks-Cleveland Cavaliers game on Jan. 6. 2024. The defendant pulled down one board that night. The plan for a Feb. 27, 2024, game between the Bucks and Charlotte Hornets was for Beasley to allegedly score less than 12.5 points and grab more than 3.5 rebounds. He did both, with 6 points and 4 boards. Beasley allegedly conspired with gamblers to grab more than 3.5 rebounds during a March 10, 2024, game between his Bucks and the Los Angeles Clippers. Beasley cut it close, securing his fourth board of the game with a second left on the clock. The scheme failed at least once, prosecutors said, when Beasley was allegedly supposed to underperform in rebounds during a March 21, 2024 Bucks-Brooklyn Nets game. Beasley grabbed 6 rebounds that night, well above his 3.7 rebounding average that season.
