Two Roads to the Same Communism
“Socialists” running on a communist agenda have taken control of the Democratic Party in New York City, and after the November election, they are poised to gain a critical mass of electoral power within the party nationally. Candidates for the Democratic Socialists of America (“DSA”) are now winning primaries against long-tenured Democrats in the heartland, too.
This is causing some consternation among less-radical Democrats who fear an electoral backlash among moderates and independents, but it is also a bit perplexing to those of us who have been battling climate communism for several decades. The climate agenda that sought to eliminate fossil fuels and reorganize society in a “sustainable” fashion was intellectually consistent with the efforts of “socialist” leaders such as Pol Pot and Mao Tse-Tung to radically reorient all aspects of human society. Their efforts resulted in tens of millions of deaths. (RELATED: Yes, They’re Communists, and Yes, They’re Lying About It. For Now.)
Mamdani-style DSA communism and Net Zero climate communism are two different paths to the same destination.
The good news is that there are a few voices in the Democratic Party repudiating its takeover by the DSA. Strategist James Carville is advocating for a schism in the party, stating that “there’s just some s*** that I can’t be in the same tent with.” Thirteen Democrats running for Congress this fall released a “Promise to America” asserting that they support capitalism, not socialism. With 212 Democrats currently in the House, 13 is not a big number, but it is good to know that a few Democrats have finally realized there needs to be limits to the “No enemies on the left” philosophy that has driven their party so far to the fringe. But why is the DSA communism of Zohran Mamdani and his proteges suddenly seen as something to fear, whereas Net Zero activists are feted in polite society? The endgame communism of both is the same. I’d suggest that the reason is that the climate agenda wears an Anglo façade of feel-good environmentalism that conceals its communist reality, e.g., the famous watermelon analogy — green on the outside, red on the inside. The DSA, meanwhile, does not wear a Western mask. It is quite open about its hatred of the United States, promising to terminate our constitutional republic and re-imagine it as some form of Islamo-communist state. While the traditional Democratic base has long-since repudiated patriotism, it is still somewhat shocking, perhaps, to hear the DSA’s bold vilification of the United States.
In the recent congressional primaries in New York City, three DSA candidates won their primaries against traditional Democrats, virtually ensuring that they will become members of Congress. One of them, Darializa Avila Chevalier, has declared that “I hate this f***ing country,” and she also boasted about desecrating the American flag, stating, “I forgot to get napkins so I just wiped my hand on the American flag behind me.” Mayor Mamdani praises Ms. Chevalier for being a “perfect candidate.” For the purposes of Mr. Mamdani’s agenda, Ms. Chevalier is indeed the perfect candidate. But again, the climate agenda is no less of a threat than the DSA. In Europe, where the Net Zero agenda is well down the tracks, we are seeing the consequences. There is widespread command and control of most economic activity, since there is no economic activity without energy. Citizens are being taxed to subsidize unreliable green energy projects, and then they are paying high energy prices resulting from the lack of affordable baseline electricity. Without competitively priced energy, industries are crumbling, and homeowners are finding themselves prohibited from even using air conditioning during a heat wave.
Back in the states, it is a foundational belief of Democrats that the U.S. must surrender its sovereignty to foreign authoritarians in service to “the climate crisis.” Democrats in most blue states have already passed laws banning the sale of gasoline-powered cars after a short transition period. That would mean that only electric vehicles could be sold. EVs have proven themselves to be a boutique status symbol for the affluent, while having limited utility for the masses. Their hassle, cost, and limited range make EVs unsuitable as a “daily driver” for ordinary people. Denying normal Americans reliable transportation and the freedom that comes with a gasoline-powered car is the purpose of “the EV transition.” Democrats embrace this. (RELATED: EVs Are a Failed Experiment)
Democrats also demand that the use of fossil fuels be abolished. Doing so would impoverish people in a way that makes Cuba look prosperous. It would also be a form of mass murder. Before air conditioning, tens of thousands of Americans died from summer heat, especially during the prolonged heat waves of the 1930s. As Energy Secretary Chris Wright noted in a tweet on the morning of July 2, just 9 percent of the energy powering the 13-state Mid-Atlantic region was coming from “renewable” sources. Ninety-one percent was coming from natural gas, coal, and nuclear.
In Europe, there is also a war on farming, because it is a belief of the climate cult that the petroleum used in agriculture, especially to make fertilizer, is destroying the planet. The “intellectual” class pursuing Net Zero in Europe seems to believe that food comes from grocery stores, not farms; therefore, they see no harm in effectively outlawing farming. Nothing that the DSA is proposing is as radical as the climate cultists effectively seeking to abolish food production, yet Democrats in the U.S. stand in solidarity with the European Net Zero agenda. Starvation is a predictable outcome of communism, yet that is on the agenda of the climate crowd. (RELATED: Towards the ‘Triumph of Free Trade’)
The climate scare has been especially effective at funneling those who simply care about being good stewards of the environment into advocating for economic communism. This is because all of the remedies to the “climate crisis” require severe restrictions on economic freedom. Even Republicans fall into this trap. Christine Todd Whitman was elected governor of New Jersey as a moderate Republican who is “fiscally conservative but socially liberal.” She was seduced into pursuing the climate agenda as a “socially liberal” issue, but she is now publicly calling for crushing carbon taxes and for surrendering American sovereignty to foreign climate alliances so as to hold every country, including the U.S., “accountable in achieving a common global goal.”
Mamdani-style DSA communism and Net Zero climate communism are two different paths to the same destination. Both must be rejected to protect our freedom and our future.
