Continuing her domination. If you think it’s been hard to keep up with all the headlines surrounding Ella Langley and her generational run over the past nine months, I wouldn’t even blame you at this point. After riding the highs of 2024’s Riley Green collaboration, “you look like you love me” all the way into the end of 2025, the Alabama native dropped what can only be described as a cultural phenomenon at this point with “Choosin’ Texas.” As it stands today, “Choosin’ Texas” is the longest-running #1 hit by a female country artist on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, the only country song by a woman to triple up and go #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Hot Country and Country Airplay chart simultaneously and just one of 25 songs in history to stay at #1 for 12+ weeks on the Hot 100. In case that wasn’t enough, thanks to the success of her sophomore album, Dandelion, which debuted at #1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 and sold 169,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week, Langley became just the second woman in history to hold the #1 album and song in the U.S. simultaneously with a country song/album. Of course, Taylor Swift was the first, going #1 with Red (Taylor’s Version) and “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” back in 2021. She’d make even more history back on May 18th when “Choosin’ Texas” spent its 10th week at #1 on the Hot 100 and “Be Her” held strong at #2 for a second straight week. In turn, she became the first country artist IN HISTORY to hold the Top 2 songs in the United States simultaneously for more than one week. This broke her out a tie with Morgan Wallen, who became the first country artist to do so upon the release of I’m The Problem last May, when he owned the top three songs with “What I Want,” “Just in Case” and “I’m the Problem.” In the weeks following, it managed to gain sole possession of the longest-leading chart-topper on the Hot 100 recorded by a woman in country music, breaking out of a tie with Debby Boone’s 1977 hit, “You Light Up My Life,” which topped the all-genre chart for 10 weeks (and peaked at #4 on the Hot Country Songs chart). Additionally, “Choosin’ Texas” became just the 25th song in the Hot 100’s 68-year history to stay at #1 for a dozen weeks or more, and Langley became the first woman in history to score three of the Top 4 hits on the Hot 100 in a single week with country songs (and just the ninth artist in history to do so in any genre). Fresh off scoring the most-streamed song of the year so far, this week, Choosin’ Texas” remained at #1 for its 14th frame, garnering 24 million official streams, 51 million airplays on radio and 7,000 units sold. View this post on Instagram This time around, “Choosin’ Texas” has now tied Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” as the longest-running solo #1 by a female artist in any genre on the Hot 100 chart this CENTURY. Going further into Hot 100 records, Langley’s smash hit is now tied for the second-longest #1 by a woman in history, matching Carey’s aforementioned track and Whitney Houston’s Dolly Parton-penned classic, “I Will Always Love You.” Of course, it’s only behind Carey’s holiday hit, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which holds the all-time record with 22 weeks. Langley’s success is obviously not limited to just the Hot 100, of course. This week, “Choosin’ Texas” also topped Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart (32nd week), Songs of the Summer chart (7th week), Streaming Songs chart (15th week) and Digital Song Sales chart (13th week). With the track primed to spend its 15th frame at #1 next week, Langley will gain sole-possession of the second-longest-running #1 hit by a woman in Hot 100 history and, in turn, this century.
