News Avengers: Doomsday Every Major Character Missing From the Avengers: Doomsday Trailer If anyone sees Alan Cumming, tell him we miss him By Matthew Byrd | Published on July 20, 2026 Image Credit: Marvel Studios Comment 0 Share New Share Image Credit: Marvel Studios We’ve technically gotten other trailers for Avengers: Doomsday, but the upcoming film’s latest preview is our only proper look at the biggest MCU release of the year. It’s actually somewhat surprising that Marvel released the trailer ahead of their SDCC 2026 panel, though you’ve got to imagine that they’ve got even bigger things planned for that show. Nevertheless, the recent Doomsday trailer has predictably been dissected by eagle-eyed analysts who couldn’t help but notice there are quite a few things the preview doesn’t show us. Namely, it’s strangely missing a few of the names that were once prominently featured in that now-infamous director’s chair livestream event that slowly (very slowly) revealed the biggest members of the Doomsday cast. Now, we can only really guess as to whether the absence of those confirmed names was an oversight or a deliberate attempt to hide some aspect of the film that Marvel simply isn’t ready to share yet. In a couple of cases, that could be the long-awaited appearances of the characters themselves. As a bonus, I’m also including a few of the more notable Marvel names that have been associated with Doomsday at some point but have never actually been confirmed to appear in the movie and do not appear in the new trailer. Every Avengers: Doomsday Character Seen in the Trailer As a reference for the rest of the article, here’s a list of the major characters who did make at least a brief appearance in the recently released Avengers: Doomsday trailer: Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal) The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) Thor (Chris Hemsworth) Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby) Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) Agent Walker (Wyatt Russell) Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) Red Guardian (David Harbour) Namor (Tenoch Huerta Mejía) Shuri (Letitia Wright) M’Baku (Winston Duke) Cyclops (James Marsden) Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) Gambit (Channing Tatum) Loki (Tom Hiddleston) Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) Magneto (Ian McKellen) Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) Confirmed Avengers: Doomsday Characters Not in The Trailer Each of these characters (as played by these actors) is confirmed to appear in Doomsday in some capacity but were mysteriously absent from the recent trailer: Image Credit: Marvel Studios Beast (Kelsey Grammer) Kelsey Grammer was actually one of the first legacy X-Men actors who was confirmed to appear in Doomsday, and he was of course name-dropped during the aforementioned cast chair announcement video. Yet, he’s nowhere to be found in the first Doomsday trailer or any of the Doomsday teasers released so far.  Grammer did previously appear as Beast in The Marvels, so it’s not like we haven’t seen him in the MCU before. Still, his absence suggests a desire to either focus on the absolute biggest names in Doomsday or the possibility that his scenes in the movie are limited/heavy on spoilers. The same could seemingly be said of many currently missing X-Men characters. Image Credit: 20th Century Fox Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming) First off, it’s very rude to tell us that Alan Cumming will once again play Nightcrawler and then refuse to show us the character in any of the marketing material. The real traitors are at Marvel Studios.  Much like Kelsey Grammer, it feels like we can most likely attribute Cumming’s absence to a smaller role, a spoiler-heavy role, or, perhaps, the nightmare of trying to find the time to fit every character into the preview for a movie that features every character. Still, at least we know we’ll get to see Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler again (eventually).  Image Credit: Marvel Studios Sentry (Lewis Pullman) It was a bit surprising to see Lewis Pullman featured in that infamous casting chair reveal given that Thunderbolts* hadn’t been released at the time and the nature of Pullman’s character was being kept under wraps leading up to that movie’s debut. We know Pullman reprises his role as Sentry in the movie, though the character was notably absent from the first Doomsday trailer. To be fair, though, the Thunderbolts crew doesn’t recieve a lot of screen time in this trailer, in general. Pullman also previously noted that he’s aware that a lot of the characters in the movie “resume their journeys” in unexpected ways, so this is another case where the character’s absence could indeed be a deliberate attempt to hide something that would be hard to feature in the trailer without giving too much away. Image Credit: Marvel Studios The Falcon (Danny Ramirez) Marvel’s new Falcon hasn’t exactly gotten off to the best start. Danny Ramirez’s appearances so far have either been not especially memorable (The Falcon and The Winter Soldier) or were in movies many would like to forget (Captain America: Brave New World).  Still, his confirmed appearance in Doomsday does raise some interesting questions about how this movie is going to handle some of its newer, underserved characters while delivering the legacy names from various universes. Ramirez’s absence in the trailer at least hints at more of the latter and perhaps a touch less of the former.  Rumored Avengers: Doomsday Characters Not in The Trailer While none of these characters are officially set to appear in Doomsday, they have all been associated with the film at some point in various ways. Since they’re not featured in the latest preview, though, here’s what we know and suspect about their status. Image Credit: Marvel Studios Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) This is maybe the most intriguing missing name from both the Doomsday trailer and the movie’s confirmed cast so far.  It’s been 4 years since we last saw Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness, and that film’s ending (in which the Doctor learns he has caused an incursion between universes) seemingly hinted that it would feed into the multiverse shenanigans Doomsday intends to provide. And yet, the only thing we’ve been left to go on is Benedict Cumberbatch’s cheeky suggestion that the reason he wasn’t featured in the movie’s cast reveal video is that they didn’t have enough chairs. If Doctor Strange does appear in the movie, it will apparently be in a secret (and likely important) cameo role. Image Credit: Sony Pictures Spider-Man (Tom Holland) Another oddity, Tom Holland has never been officially confirmed to appear in Doomsday despite all evidence that would lead you to assume he must be. After all, it’s a bit difficult to imagine Doomsday without arguably the MCU’s most popular remaining legacy character, especially with Brand New Day out later this month.  As it stands, though, Tom Holland is not confirmed to appear in the upcoming film. While the character will almost certainly appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, it’s possible that his appearance in that sequel will be set-up in Brand New Day rather than Doomsday.  Image Credit: Marvel Studios Deadpool and Wolverine (Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman) Deadpool and Wolverine are two of the more intriguing missing characters from the Doomsday trailer. The trades went back and forth over a rumor that Reynolds will appear as Deadpool in Doomsday in some capacity, and many assumed that Jackman will appear as Wolverine given how heavily the movie is leaning into the legacy X-Men of it all. Yet, these two remain MIA. For what it’s worth, a series of rumors strongly suggest that if these two are going to be in the movie, it will be in a very limited capacity. So keep your expectations low but feel free to keep them all the same. Image Credit: Marvel Studios The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) Given that Doomsday is clearly trying as hard as it can to bring back the original Avengers (it will, against all odds, feature Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans), the absence of Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner is a curious omission. After all, Banner is not only still active in the MCU but has a supporting role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Ruffalo previously suggested that he will not appear in Doomsday while reports indicate that he could still make an appearance in next year’s Secret Wars.
