When 33-year-old Kiana Hall captured video of a very unique-looking raccoon, she had no idea he’d be a viral sensation. The marking specialist named him Jimothy and posted a video of him scampering across some grass in Seattle. That was on July 14, 2026, and less than two weeks later, Jimothy the raccoon became a bright light for many people. “I never thought that my video of a raccoon would take off,” Kiana told Today. “I’m really happy that he could bring some kind of joy to people. Times are hard for everyone. Everyone could use something silly and fun like this.” “He’s just a little Beanie Baby,” a fan wrote. This person gave a slightly better explanation. “Short spine syndrome!! Little dude looks funny but is otherwise completely healthy & can live a normal life normally I see it in dogs, sometimes cats, & that one famous bear, but this is a new one!!” They wrote. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kiana (@c1vrgr1) People Can’t Get Enough of Jimothy the Raccoon Kianna didn’t know exactly what Jimothy was at first, but as soon as she saw his face, the name came to her. “I was pretty surprised and confused because the body shape didn’t look like anything I was familiar with,” she said. “He turned around, and I saw that masked pattern on the front of his face, and that’s when I realized he was a raccoon.” The City of Seattle is also embracing Jimothy the raccoon and will have a special ceremony in his honor on July 26. “Join us next weekend to celebrate our newest local icon Jimothy as we present a proclamation in his honor to commemorate Jimothy Summer.
