The summer of cancellations rolls on. It seems like buying concert tickets these days is always a crap shoot, because more and more shows are being canceled after they’ve been announced. Just this week, Kacey Musgraves announced that she was cancelling three shows, including the opening night, on her upcoming Middle of Nowhere tour, and we’ve seen several other artists pull the plug on concerts – or entire tours – due to an apparent lack of ticket sales. Luckily for Jason Isbell it doesn’t appear that he’s come down with the dreaded “blue dot fever,” a name that’s been given to artists cancelling shows due to lack of ticket sales thanks to the “blue dots” that appear on Ticketmaster when you go to buy tickets. But the “If We Were Vampires” singer recently cancelled one upcoming show while postponing three more – though he hasn’t yet given fans an explanation as to why. The show on Friday, July 31 at ParkStage in Freehold, New Jersey has been cancelled, with a message on the venue’s website informing fans that they would be issuing refunds to ticket holders: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, JASON ISBELL & THE 400 UNIT scheduled for Friday, July 31st at ParkStage has been canceled. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Refunds will be issued automatically to the original payment method used to purchase your tickets. No further action is required; the refund will be processed directly through your point of purchase. We hope to see you at another show soon.” In addition to the cancellation, it was announced yesterday that Isbell’s show that was originally scheduled for tonight at Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts has been rescheduled for September 4, while the show at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia on Thursday, July 30 will now take place on August 20, and his show at the Berglund Performing Arts Theatre in Roanoke, Virginia originally scheduled for Saturday, August 1 will now be on August 19 instead. There’s been no official explanation for the changes (in fact, some ticket holders have reported not even receiving emails from the venue), but the fact that the shows were rescheduled so soon after the original date makes it seem like it’s nothing too serious. (Somebody on Reddit suggested that maybe someone accidentally ate the diarrhea lettuce…) Isbell hasn’t been on X/Twitter for a while now, but he does still post on Threads, where he was active as recently as two days ago, though it’s no uncommon for him to go days between posts.
