Clint Schneider teaches social studies at Washington High School in Washington, Missouri. After a long week of classes, Clint was at his home on September 18, 2026,  just relaxing, when he noticed flames coming from his elderly neighbor’s home. Clint didn’t think twice and rushed outside to help her, he told local news station KMOV. “I immediately thought, she’s going to need help, and took off as fast as I could to get to her house,” Clint said.  In his rush to save his neighbor, Clint forgot to put on his shoes. “I thought, man, this is stupid. Why did I not put on my shoes, right? So walked across the glass. It was okay. It wasn’t that bad,” he said. Clint Schneider Saved His Neighbor’s Life Once inside the home, Clint Schneider could see just how quickly the fire spread. He began to call out his neighbor’s name  “It was one of those things, to where you realize I don’t have a flashlight, I don’t know where the light switches are, you know, it was dark. But luckily, through the glow of the fire, I could see her hands wave at me,” Clint recalled.  He told KMOV that as he and the neighbor were walking through the home, all he could think about was getting out. He never considered the danger. “Was able to grab her arm, and she grabbed my arm, and we started walking out. But it wasn’t very fast, so we just gave her a big bear hug and carried her out of there,” Clint said. Assistant Fire Chief Mark Skornia told KMOV Clint Schneider saved his neighbor’s life. “This would have been a totally different situation in a few minutes. In a few minutes, this would have been a deadly fire,” he said. “We have here a genuine bona fide hero,” the fire chief added. Clint said he doesn’t consider himself a hero.
