WASHINGTON — Rep. Ilhan Omar issued a statement Tuesday requesting that the public refrain from circulating a recent mugshot in which she appears without her usual head covering. “I would ask that people not share the photo,” Omar said. “It does not reflect how I normally present myself.” The image, taken following a brief detention, shows her with a shaved head. Aides described the request as an effort to limit the spread of an unflattering image. “Most importantly, do not share stories about the mug shot as it violates my religious customs.” Several Democratic colleagues declined to comment. Online posts sharing the photo continued after the statement was released. Omar’s office said she had no further comment on the matter.
