The radical Malmö imam Basem Mahmoud is one of those who in his sermons attacks the Swedish authorities and in particular the social services. He accuses Sweden of taking Muslim children.

On Saturday, a demonstration will be held in Gothenburg in protest against LVU (Law with special provisions on care of young people). The reason is that many Muslims feel badly treated by Swedish authorities after their children have been taken into care with the support of that law.

Several Muslim representatives support and fire at the protesters. One of them is the radical Malmö imam Basem Mahmoud. In an Arab sermon a few days ago, he makes a long list of serious accusations against the Swedish state:

- They have started taking the children from the mothers' stomachs. They steal the children the moment they are born. The Swedish schools and social services are the most corrupt of all institutions in Sweden. They are Sweden's dirtiest stain of shame. They are manipulating the children of Muslims. But Muslims and Muslim children are here to stay. And Sweden is ours. It's ours, whether they want it or not. In ten to fifteen years, it will be ours, he claims.

Basem Mahmoud has been a well-known profile in the Malmö district Rosengård for many years. In connection with the riots in Rosengård in 2008, which was triggered by a basement mosque being evicted from its premises, he was presented in the media as a "spokesman" for the angry Muslims. The eviction was formally carried out because the premises were used for a purpose other than that agreed in the lease. The unrest in 2008 also spread to Muslims in Stockholm's suburbs.

Defended the murder of teachers
Basem Mahmoud has made more controversial statements. Among other things, he has defended the brutal murder of the French teacher Samuel Paty 2020.

- A person who loves his religion gets angry and slaughters the teacher with a knife at the gutter, because the teacher is unclean and the gutter is the only place he deserves. It's a simple equation. One of them sinned by insulting the Prophet, and one of us sinned and killed the teacher who insulted the Prophet, Mahmoud is said to have said.

Mahmoud has also expressed gross anti-Semitism, calling Jews "offspring of pigs and monkeys." He has reported to the police for incitement against ethnic groups, but so far has escaped prosecution.

From Jordan
Mahmoud is originally from the Jordanian capital Amman. He immigrated to Sweden in 1989 in connection with marrying a Swedish woman who converted to Islam. He has been a Swedish citizen since 1993.

Together with the Swedish woman, Mahmoud has seven children, but the couple are now divorced. According to the woman, over time Mahmoud became "increasingly religious and controlling". She has several times requested a restraining order against her ex-husband, but was rejected by the court.

In 2016, Basem Mahmoud remarried to a woman 32 years younger. The couple divorced after just over two years.

Got daughters taken into care
According to Expressen , which translated Basem Mahmoud's Arabic sermons, "he seems angrier than before" in his latest sermon on Youtube. There may be an explanation for that.

In December, Mahmoud's 17-year-old daughter was taken into care by the social authorities. The reason was that the girl herself told that she "has been mentally and physically abused at home for a long time". According to court documents that Samnytt has read, the girl has lived in a strongly honor-controlled environment.
