DEVELOPING: Chuck Schumer Attempting To Force Vote On Ukraine‚ Israel Aid Package Without Border Security
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) reportedly is crafting a backup plan once the ‘America Last’ border deal dies in the legislative body.
20 Senate Republicans voiced opposition to the bill and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said the deal was dead on arrival.
UPDATE: Senate Border Bill Declared ‘Dead’
However‚ Schumer wants to force a vote on a foreign aid package that doesn't include border security provisions.
"Majority Leader Chuck Schumer‚ D-N.Y.‚ told Senate Democrats he plans to force a vote Wednesday on an Israel and Ukraine aid package stripped of border security provisions after Republicans made clear they would block the entire bipartisan border security and foreign aid bill in the afternoon‚ a Senate Democratic aide told NBC News‚" according to NBC News.

"Republicans said they would only do Ukraine and Israel humanitarian aid with border. Then they said they would not do it with border. Well we're going to give them both options. We'll take either one. We just hope they can come to yes on something‚" Schumer told reporters.

Per NBC News:
If it gets at least 60 votes‚ the procedural motion Wednesday afternoon would tee up a vote later this week on the pared-down foreign aid package‚ which includes assistance to the warring countries and Taiwan.
The vote on whether to take up a motion to proceed to the narrower aid package is likely to happen shortly after the first procedural vote on the broader border and aid bill Wednesday afternoon‚ the Senate aide told NBC News. Schumer's plan to try to move the foreign aid bill without border provisions was previously reported by Punchbowl News.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell‚ R-Ky.‚ who supported the $118 billion border security bill that a group of Republican senators negotiated with Democrats‚ expressed support for a vote on the supplemental aid bill without the border provisions during a leadership news conference Tuesday.
“There are other parts of this supplemental they’re extremely important as well — Ukraine‚ Israel‚ Taiwan‚" McConnell said. "We still‚ in my view‚ ought to tackle the rest of it because it’s important. Not that the border isn’t important‚ but we can’t get an outcome. So that’s where I think we ought to head‚ and it’s up to Senator Schumer to decide how to repackage this‚ if in fact we don’t go on to it.”
"There’s an Ukraine first package being shoved down the throat of the US Senate. It doesn’t secure our border‚ gives away all leverage to achieve real border security‚ and no one has had time to read through the details. Let’s defeat this package. We have to‚" Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) said.

The Washington Times reports:
Although several other GOP senators have floated that idea‚ it’s unclear whether enough will side with Democrats for the standalone aid to pass.
The senior Democratic aide said it would be “an embarrassing prospect” if Republicans blocked the foreign aid twice in one day.
“First‚ Republicans said they would only do Ukraine and Israel [and] humanitarian aid with border. Then they said they would not do it with border‚” said Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer‚ New York Democrat. “We’re going to give them both options.”
The bipartisan border deal was assailed by Senate and House Republicans as being too weak on the illegal immigration flood‚ especially allowing at least 4‚000 migrants into the country per day‚ forcing Mr. McConnell and its Republican architect — Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma — to ditch the agreement.
Even if the Senate manages to greenlight the standalone foreign aid‚ it’s likely to die in the Republican-controlled House.
