FOREIGN. With Donald Trump as president of the United States, the superpower will not defend NATO countries that do not spend the agreed two percent of GDP on their defense, in the event of a Russian attack.

The announcement was made by the presidential candidate himself during a campaign rally in North Carolina.

During the meeting, Trump repeated his stance from his meeting with NATO leaders in Europe in 2016, where he said the United States will not defend a NATO country that does not meet the alliance's spending requirements.

Donald Trump sharpened his stance in North Carolina at the same time as Republicans in the Senate rejected a new aid package for Ukraine.
