30 Essential Atari 8bit Platform Games to Rock Your Atari 400Â Mini
The Atari 8bit received a wealth of classic platform games in its lifespan including arcade conversions‚ single‚ scrolling and multiscreen genres all with some type of  vertical and horizontal movement across multiple platforms by jumping or climbing.
Some of these games add adventure and exploration elements while others will satisfy your appetite for all out arcade action. They all have one thing in common. They are all Atari computer game instant classics that you will want to load onto your Atari 400 mini‚ Multicart for an Atari 8bit original system or in the emulator of your choice.Â
There are so many to choose from that we are forced to break this game category up into multiple videos. We will mostly cover this prolific genre from the early years here‚ but have added a few modern takes on the genre also.Â
To get on this list‚ a game can’t just have a reputation as being good‚ I needed to be able to play it and have fun while enjoying the game play visual and sonic experience. This was a very difficult list to get down to 30 and has been refined over and over many times this week.
This first video easily could have been 60 or more games deep with first round draft picks‚ so be patient‚ a second and third video are on the way shortly and your favoreit will most likely show up on one of them.Â
Some of the classics and newer games that many people might expect to find here may have been moved to later videos mostly due to time constraints‚ but some were cut for now to give me more time to playtest and find their strengths and weaknesses.
As far as similar genres go‚Â I have left Q*bert‚ digging like Boulderdash and Frogger style games to another video entirely because their game mechanics are simplified to basically a single action and also because they would take up nearly two thirds of this list. Their time will come.Â
Note‚ at press time a few of these have been announced as being included with the 400 Mini. Nice Job Atari. And Plaion
Let’s start with a new game that shows off the true power of the Atari 8 bits in the right hands.Â
