FOREIGN. A number of Arab states condemn the burning of the Koran in Sweden - and on Arab media, the Arab anger against the Scandinavian country is boiling, reports Swedish Radio. At the same time, Rasmus Paludan is now being attacked by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which claims to have an "understanding" of Muslims' reactions.
That Sweden gave permission and police protection to the manifestations of the Islamic critic Rasmus Paludan arouses great anger in the Middle East.
Arab countries such as Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Iraq have condemned the burning of the Koran.
It also has Al Azhar, the main university of Sunni Islam, which also calls for international legislation against the "violation of the sanctity of religions", according to SR.
"Angry comments on social media call Sweden racist and hypocritical. All the good we have heard about Sweden is a lie, wrote a man", reports the state radio.
"They give a right-wing extremist Islamophobic police protection. They would never let him curse the Jewish people as he insults Muslims," another person wrote on Twitter.
On Saturday, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry called a representative from the Swedish embassy in Baghdad. According to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, the events could have "serious consequences".
Foreign Ministry: "Something completely different"
The Swedish Foreign Ministry does not want to comment on what was said during the meeting, but strongly dissociates itself from Rasmus Paludan.
"We have great understanding for the fact that Muslims have taken these manifestations badly. The Swedish government is in no way behind the anti-Islamic views expressed by individuals during the demonstrations," the Foreign Ministry writes according to Expressen.
Demonstrating and expressing one's opinion is admittedly a constitutionally protected right, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"But what has happened now during the Easter weekend is something completely different," the ministry continues.
