Russia has previously declared ceasefire and announced free passage for civilians from the area, but Ukraine has refused to release them.

But now on Friday, Ukraine says it will be able to evacuate civilians from the facility. This is stated by a spokesperson for President Zelenskyj according to Reuters.

"An operation is planned today to get civilians out," writes Zelenskyj's office.

How the health situation is for the civilians in Asovstal is unknown. They have been besieged for several weeks without the supply of supplies.

Russia has control over the entire city and its surroundings around the steelworks, and has offered the imprisoned soldiers to capitulate in peaceful forms and the civilians to leave the area regardless of capitulation. However, Ukraine has so far rejected both proposals and no one has been allowed to leave the area.
