In October last year Carine was 27 years old and the baby in her womb 8 months. None of them would get older. The cohabitant, 31-year-old Kelvin Osagie, saw to this by brutally murdering Carine with over 50 stab wounds, some of which also penetrated through the uterus and into the unborn child. He also inflicted about 20 other assault injuries on Carine.

Traumatized witnesses to the act in the apartment in Vänersborg became the couple's other two children of preschool age. The motive for the act was that Carine wanted to leave Kelvin. He was also worried that in connection with this she would report him to the police for what he had previously exposed her to in the relationship. She would therefore be silenced for good.

Kelvin recorded the murder with his mobile and then fled the home. However, it did not take long for the police to direct the suspicions against him and he could be arrested fairly quickly. He was charged with and is now convicted of murder and a felony in two cases, the latter for having committed the murder in front of the other two children.

Sentenced to life imprisonment
An eight-month-old baby in the womb has no problem surviving outside the womb if it were born prematurely or removed by caesarean section. In Sweden, unlike several other countries, unborn children have no status as legal entities and therefore Kelvin cannot be convicted of having also murdered the child.

The verdict in Vänersborg District Court still lands in life imprisonment. He is also sentenced to deportation. According to the district court, there are no mitigating circumstances that justify a milder sanction than that.

Had bag packed to leave, but did not have time
During the crime scene investigation, a bag with children's clothes and other things was found, which indicates that Carine intended to leave Kelvin and the destructive relationship the same day. It has also emerged that she booked an appointment at the maternity care center that day and was asked by a friend to tell her during the visit what was going on in the relationship.

However, Carine did not have time to leave before she was brutally murdered by Kelvin. From the recording he made with his mobile phone of the murder that he seems to have known about Carine's booked visit to the midwife and was worried about what would come out there.

Recorded the murder with the cell phone
It has been of great help to the prosecutor and the court that Kelvin was in the habit of recording his conversations with his mobile phone, not only those he had on the phone but also with his partner at home. Kelvin has claimed that he inflicted on Carine the 50 stab wounds and 20 other injuries in self-defense. The recordings say otherwise.

During the last conversation, Kelvin is heard telling Carine to keep quiet about their relationship with the midwife, but then chooses to kill her instead for safety. The last thing you hear from Carine before she is murdered is how she repeatedly prays for her life
