The number of cases of monkey pox is increasing throughout Sweden, says the Swedish Public Health Agency. In Sweden, 58 cases of smallpox have been reported up to and including 13 July, of which 48 cases occurred in the Stockholm Region. A first delivery with 1,500 doses of smallpox vaccine is expected to arrive in Sweden soon.

It is mainly gay men who have been infected with monkey pox. The men are almost exclusively infected in connection with having sex with other men.

Can be traced to stays abroad
All Swedish cases of relaxation are found among men in the age range 20–65 years, with an average age of 39 years, according to FHM.

Most have been infected in connection with trips abroad.

- But we also have domestic spread of infection and there will certainly be more clusters in Sweden. It is worrying and something we must try to prevent, he says.

So far, few people have become seriously ill with smallpox. The disease is in most cases mild and so far no one in Europe has died after being infected.
