FOREIGN. An agreement on grain exports between Russia, Ukraine and the UN appears to have been signed soon. A famine in the world should thus be avoided.

However, time is short and it is important to get the grain, which is from last year, out quickly.

- In Ukraine, they are starting to thresh now, but the silos are full of old harvest, says Tamer Umdu, commodity analyst at Lantmännen, to SVT.

Both Ukraine and Russia are major net exporters of wheat, corn and sunflower oil, which are now stuck in the countries due to sanctions and the state of war.

If exports are not opened up, farmers in Ukraine, including occupied territories, will not be able to stop growing grain altogether.
