That did not go well. Today, Hunter Biden’s defense team called his daughter Naomi to the witness stand. Suffice it to say that the cross-examination of her did not help his case. So much so that, after Naomi was questioned by prosecutors, Hunter’s defense team told the judge that they wanted to adjourn for the weekend in order to make some decisions. Naomi was supposed to make the jury sympathetic toward Hunter. The defense also hoped she would make them question whether he was actively using drugs in October 2018, when it is alleged that he falsely stated while purchasing a gun that he was not using or addicted to any illegal controlled substance. Naomi told the defense team that Hunter was the “clearest (she) had seen him” since the death of Beau Biden when she met him for lunch and shopping in August 2018. She then claimed — strangely, in a whisper, while having occasional coughing fits — that she had seen her father sometime in New York City around Oct. 18, 2018 (less than a week after he purchased the gun), and he had seemed “healthy.” To really seal her narrative that her father was not actively using drugs at the time, she claimed that she had told her father she was “proud of him” at that October meetup. Things got awkward during cross-examination when prosecutors read aloud text messages that she had sent to Hunter around the time period when he purchased the gun. Those messages painted a starkly different picture than what she had claimed to Hunter’s defense team. “I’m sorry daddy, I can’t take this, I don’t know what to say,” she wrote to him on Oct. 18, for instance. (The prosecution has presented other evidence that, at this very time, Hunter was buying crack cocaine.) At another time, Naomi sent Hunter a series of exasperated and pleading text messages, only to be ignored for hours on end. When Hunter finally did respond to that series of messages, it was to ask Naomi to have her boyfriend drop off keys to a truck for him in Manhattan — at 2 a.m. The prosecution in the Hunter Biden trial has obviously proven that all the elements of the crimes are met. Hunter Biden will have to hope for a miracle — or a Delaware jury highly, highly favorable to the Biden family.
