Nearly 94,000 votes that were invalidated in Sunday's vote count may become valid. On Monday evening, around 47,000 votes separated the blocs.

After the votes from the polling stations had been counted, there was an advantage for the right side with 175 seats against the left side's 174. But nothing has yet been decided. The electoral authority states that the counting of votes is expected to last until Thursday.

In the final vote count at the county administrative offices around the country, thousands of votes that were previously declared invalid may now become valid. This year it is about a whopping 93,734 votes. In the 2018 election, a total of 83,646 votes were declared invalid - approximately 30 percent of these were later declared valid, Aftonbladet reports .

- The County Administrative Board can declare valid things that have been declared invalid in the polling station, the municipalities have little time and simply make a rougher assessment. So they can invalidate things that we then validate, says Louise Jeppsson, election officer at the county administrative board in Kronoberg, to SR.

A common reason for a vote to be invalidated is that the voter has placed two ballots in the same envelope. In such cases, the vote is declared valid by the county administrative board.
