The Ukrainian flag street mural painted on the parking space on Sairashuonekatu in Turku can remain in place.

A private person painted the flag on the street in the parking space reserved for the Russian Consul General's official residence yesterday morning.

Saara Malila , communications director of the city of Turku , says that the painting cannot be washed away, but can be left there as long as the paint lasts.

Is it a statement?

- It is probably a matter to be decided in the mind of each interpreter, but it can be seen as a statement that the city is not consciously going to remove it, says Malila.

However, Malila states that the city is following up on the matter. According to Malila, if the painting hinders traffic or road safety, the matter must be reconsidered.

- It probably doesn't bother anyone, says Malila.

In June 2021, the rainbow guardrail painting painted by the city of Turku on Itäinen Rantakatu had to be removed at the request of the police , as the painting on the guardrail was considered to be in violation of the Road Traffic Act.

According to Ari Sinkkonen , who runs a bicycle shop in the building's stone base, various expressions of opinion have been observed around the official residence since the end of February.

- Unfortunately, I have no information about it, and I have not heard that it was discussed in the city management, says Malila.
