Vera Wang is a month into 75 and she has continued to generate waves. The famous fashionista appeared on the red carpet at the 2024 Met Gala and easily stole the show in a sheer gown that left nothing to the imagination with its sheer fabric and bold accents. Once called the Costume Institute Benefit, the Met Gala is considered one of the most prestigious fashion events in the world. This year’s took place on May 6. In keeping with tradition, this Met Gala also boasted a specific theme; 2024’s theme was Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, while the dress code is centered around the concept of a Garden of Time. A ticket to the very first one in ’73 cost $85; today, one ticket costs $75,000. The sheer fabric was interrupted abruptly at various points on the lower half of the dress by sheer black swatches of fabric that feathered around Wang’s legs like great wings. Her jewelry choice was equally muted and invisible. The shape and flow of her gown accented Wang’s trim, willowy figure and ageless features. Her own was equally—if not more—sheer. But when it’s called recycled, that’s meant in every literal sense. Her outfit consisted of recycled bottle caps repurposed to resemble flowers. Each was individually placed across the outfit, but especially around the chest, hips, and shoulders.
