Israel's former prime minister: "West stopped peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine"
Posted 12:59 PM
In a long interview, former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett reveals that Western leaders blocked a ceasefire and a possible peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. According to Bennett, who acted as a mediator at the beginning of the war, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was driving the line to "crush Putin."
It has almost been a year since Russia invaded Ukraine and there is still no mention of a peace process. According to Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, the war has so far resulted in 150,000 dead and 250,000 wounded Ukrainian soldiers, while Ukraine has lost a significant area of land. Israel, which has good relations with both Russia and Ukraine - but also Ukraine's allies in the West, has assumed the role of mediator in the war. Israel's then Prime Minister Naftali Bennett recently participated in an interview with the Israeli television channel Channel 12 where he told about the talks with the parties to the conflict.
Bennett states that he was in close contact with the NATO countries USA, UK, France and Germany. According to him, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was pushing for the West to take an aggressive line against Russia, which US President Joe Biden was also open to. France and Germany were more restrained.
"Crush Putin"
Bennett also traveled to Moscow for a meeting with the Russian president and held several phone calls from Jerusalem. His assessment is that at the beginning there was a clear opportunity to reach peace between the countries, but that it was never relevant for the leaders in the Western world who chose to push to "crush Putin".
The media obscures the information
When the media in the Western world reports on the interview with Israel's former prime minister, the focus is on the fact that Bennett has asked Putin if he intends to kill Zelensky. Putin answered no to that question. However, the fact that a peace agreement between the countries was close and that the leaders in the West should have blocked that possibility is not mentioned in their reports.
