I have an honest question,
Why do people call themselfs Black Americans, and not American Blacks ?

Actually it's "African Americans"... in their defense, on this matter anyway, there are many ethnicities that identify themselves this way.There are countless "Italian-American" clubs, "Polish-Ameican" clubs, "Irish-American" societies, and on and on. They all, that I know of anyway, use the cultural or national origin first in the phrasing. One difference I have noticed, however, is that the vast majority only use it in a way that reflects their cultural history and heritage and celebrate such with festivals, ceremonies, and other rypes of events... BUT... embrace American culture and social norms as their primary way of conducting themselves. The African-Americans, on the other hand, however, use it as their entire identity and an excuse to reject and seperate themselves from these American values and to expect some sort of special treatment and advantages over other Americans. The latest surge of 'refugees' that have been coming from other parts of the world now are also going the route of the African-Americans, such as the Muslims, other Asian nationalities, and South Americans, in expecting to be seperated from traditional society and have special privileges and considerations. Bottom line, if the heritage is from another country there is absolutely nothing wrong with having pride in your 'roots' (pun intended), and expressing it, but if you don't want to fit in with traditional American culture then don't cry foul when you don't succeed.
