FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Can I cook these on high to speed things up? I do not suggest cooking these on high as it might burn. Crock pots run pretty hot these days so you have to be careful. Once they are fully warmed through then you can turn your slow cooker down to the “warm” setting. Is this spicy? I think heat and spiciness are completely subjective depending on what you are used to eating. If you never eat anything spicier than black pepper, then yes, this might have a bit of a kick to you. But for some people who enjoy hot sauce, etc., they may want this spicier. So, my suggestion would be (if you can’t tolerate any spice at all) is to only use a couple of whole peperoncini peppers (for flavor) and do not add any of the peperoncini juice, just substitute for water. If you like it spicier, slice up the peperoncinis and add a bit more juice to the mix. Can I swap the Lit’l Smokies for another sausage? Yep! As long as the sausage as cooked or smoked and not raw. So smoked kielbasa or smoked bratwurst would work. How can I keep these warm to serve at a party? Keep on the low setting for up to 3 hours, give them a stir every so often. This is the easiest way to serve these flavorful things at a party or gathering. How else can I serve these? They don’t necessarily need to be appetizers. If you’re feeling like it, they could also be am Meal. Served with some mashed potatoes, gotta soak up that sauce! I bet they’d be good over a pile of pasta, egg noodles or rice too. If you’re making a full meal, make some Garlic Bread or Cheesy Breadsticks to serve with these, just to dip in that sauce, so you don’t miss any of that fantastic flavor. How do I store leftovers? Keep leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container. Keep them longer in a safe for the freezer container or bag for up to 3 months.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)
Lit’l smokies – see my ingredient image below if you need to see what the packaging looks like.
pepperoncini juice– I always save the juice from other jars we just finished using for these Mississippi recipes. Sometimes I like to add a little more juice for even more bold flavor. But if you don’t want much spice, leave out the juice and just use a bit of water.
au jus gravy mix– feel free to make your own or grab a packet from the grocery store. If you are sensitive to sodium, use a low sodium packet.
packet ranch seasoning mix– you can grab a packet at the store, or you can make your own using my Ranch Seasoning Mix recipe if you want to control the ingredients in the recipe.
unsalted butter– Make sure you use unsalted butter, these are like little flavor bombs and they don’t need that additional salt.
pepperoncini peppers – you can also use banana peppers.
