In Russia be a good person or else
Who and why requests the passport data of subscribers
Most respectable citizens are surprised when they receive notifications on the phone from their telecom operator about the need to verify passport data. And really, what kind of checks are these, if, when connecting the contract, the employees of the mobile salon already requested and checked all the data, didn’t they survive?
In response, the cellular operators themselves say that, according to their estimates, there are now up to 20 million active subscribers with unconfirmed data on the Russian market. But how it happened, they have no clear explanation.
It goes without saying that this figure did not at all please Roskomnadzor , which, just in May, as part of the fight against telephone fraudsters, planned a series of measures to combat gray SIM cards. This is despite the fact that the agency speaks with confidence about the seizure of at least 152,000 such SIM cards issued in violation of the law last year alone.
Operators, after evaluating their databases, immediately calculated that simply disabling SIM cards, the owners of which do not currently have reliable documentation, threatens them with a loss of monthly income of up to 7 billion rubles, and in this regard, they began to send notifications with warnings to almost everyone contract.
“According to the law “On Communications”, services can be provided only if the operator has the subscriber’s data, Article 44 stipulates that the operator is still obliged to verify the accuracy of subscribers’ personal data,” State Duma deputy Nikita Chaplin explained to Life .
The United Russia parliamentarian clarified that the actions of Roskomnadzor are carried out, including as measures to eliminate cases of false and fraudulent calls, and therefore it is easier for operators to turn them off in order not to be responsible for existing "gray" subscribers.
Can my sim card be blocked
It turns out that if you ignore the notification of the operator and do not provide him with your passport data, then theoretically the SIM card can be blocked.
- Yes, formally the law "On Communications" requires companies to block subscriber numbers with irrelevant or unconfirmed data, but in fact this happens very rarely. Cellular operators are not very interested in the loss of subscriber mass. Most likely, for those who do not respond to SMS in the near future, the operators will not block the number, but for example, they will limit services, allow them to receive only incoming calls, thereby stimulating them to provide their passport data, - said Alexander Zolotarev, director of FixIT IT company.
At the same time, according to the expert, not only the very scammers against whom the Roskomnadzor check is declared against, but also respectable citizens, most likely, may fall under the restrictions. After all, most people simply forget to notify their operator about changing their passport, or there are cases when, when drawing up a contract, an employee of a mobile phone store made a mistake in writing even one number.
The easiest way to verify your details
Of course, any operator would like to receive a personal appearance at a mobile phone salon, where his employee, after checking the passport and contract data, would make a mark in the system. But there is an opportunity not to go anywhere, but to confirm the data for the mobile operator through the State Services. To do this, you will have to go to the website of your operator and select the “Check passport data” setting, after which there will be a transition to the State Services portal, where you need to log into your account and give permission for the processing of information by the telecom operator.
Obviously, such manipulations are not very clear to older people; they have the option of confirming their data through Multifunctional Centers (MFCs).
