The municipality's solution after 37 shootings: Painted houses should increase security

Eskilstuna is a city that has been hit hard by gang violence with shootings. Now the municipality will remedy the development by having an artist paint a network station with "graffiti art". This is claimed to contribute to a sense of security in the area.

Eskilstuna has had 37 shootings since the beginning of the year. The police are forced to reallocate large resources to deal with gang violence. The result is now that many mass crimes such as theft, fraud and vandalism are not investigated at all.

An area that is characterized by shootings is the district of Nyfors. The municipality has now focused on making Nyfors safer by hiring the artist Shora Dehnavi, who will put her graffiti art on a network station at the square outside ICA Nyfors. Furthermore, the place will also get new lighting.

- The idea is to make the place more attractive so that people want to hang out here. It should contribute to a feeling of security, says artist Shora Dehnavi to SR .


Prosecutor not convinced
Prosecutor Anna Asklöf writes on Facebook that Eskilstuna is the city in Europe where there are the most shootings. Prosecutor Asklöf, also involved in the Moderate Party, is not convinced that the concept will make any difference in the municipality.
