The punishment: Daily fines for the security guards who strangled Juha to death

LAW & JUSTICE. A female and a male law enforcement officer are sentenced for causing the death of another after choking Juha, 47, to death in the Stockholm subway. The punishment for both was a suspended sentence and a fine.

In July 2022, a 47-year-old Juha died in connection with an intervention at the subway station Rådmansgatan in Stockholm.

According to the police, at the time he was "significantly under the influence" and pushed and hit people.

The prosecutor has claimed that two security guards through gross negligence caused Juha's death by strangling him while they were lying over their victim.

The district court has assessed that through a film that reproduces large parts of the sequence of events and the autopsy report that has been relied on, it is proven that the 47-year-old died as a result of the actions of the security guards during the intervention.

The Stockholm district court also considers that the security guards, in connection with the intervention, have "acted negligently" and that their negligent actions have caused the man's death.

However, the district court considers that the deed should be classified as causing the death of another of the normal degree. The security guards are sentenced to a suspended sentence and a fine (a total of SEK 9,000 for the woman and SEK 46,800 for the man).

They must also jointly pay SEK 30,000 in damages to the deceased's mother.

One of the jurors, Mats Andersson, disagreed and wants to acquit the security guards of the charges.
