Foreign Affairs. German police are accused of a cover-up after taking three weeks to report a rape that took place in a bathhouse against a 12-year-old girl, the local newspaper Braunschweiger Zeitungreveals . There is now speculation that the cover-up was because the perpetrator was Arab.

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped at a bathhouse in Braunschweig, Germany. A 15-year-old Arab boy is suspected of first molesting the girl in the pool and then raping her in a changing room.
The incident took place on 10 August, but it took three weeks for the information to become public, with police stating that they did not immediately release information ‘because of the girl's young age’.
The case became known after a reader contacted the local newspaper Braunschweiger Zeitung, which then asked questions of the authorities.
A spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office, Christian Wolters, explained that the investigation is still at an early stage and that evidence collection is ongoing.
Police have identified the suspected offender and taken his personal details, but no legal action has yet been taken against him.
He has been assigned a lawyer and the authorities have not decided to detain him. The management of the bathhouse has announced that the suspect will be banned from entering as soon as they have received the necessary information.
The incident has sparked political debate and critics have expressed concern that serious crimes do not receive enough attention when the perpetrators are immigrants.
Local politicians are now calling for a sharper discussion on how these incidents are handled, especially when immigrants are involved, writes the Braunschweiger Zeitung.
