Swedish news gives faulse report about the weather

The media hoax: "60 degrees in Spain"

MEDIA. A long line of media have recently reported that temperatures of 60 degrees have been measured in Spain. If you read more carefully, however, you discover that this is about the ground temperature - which is significantly higher than the air temperature.

"Extreme heat sweeps across Europe - 60 degrees in Spain," read, for example, a headline on Sveriges Radio's website on Thursday.

In the state media giant's article, one could read about "60 degrees measured in the Spanish interior".

After criticism - including from the Mediegranskaren blog - SR has changed both the headline and the wording. Now it appears that the 60 degrees concerned the ground temperature and not the temperature in the air. However, why people suddenly start reporting on ground temperatures is not explained.

The same news has been reported in a similar way in countless international media.
