DOMESTIC. The government has decided to hold an extraordinary meeting with the Council against Organized Crime due to the ongoing wave of violence in the country. Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) announces this in an interview with SVT.
In the past ten days, the country has been hit by a series of violent crimes, including seven fatal shootings.
The meeting is scheduled to take place early next week and will focus on evaluating the current situation and identifying the necessary measures to counter the recruitment of children and young people into criminal gangs.
- We will mobilize the crime-fighting side with the crime-prevention side, says Gunnar Strömmer to SVT.
The Organized Crime Council, which was set up last December and is chaired by the Minister for Justice, will attend the meeting. Its permanent members include the national police chief, the head of the National Police Agency's operational department, the attorney general, the director general of customs and the directors general of the Ecocrime Agency and the Swedish Tax Agency.
In addition to the aforementioned members, representatives from the State Board of Institutions (SiS), the National Board of Health and Welfare, the Swedish School Administration and Sweden's municipalities and regions (SKR) have also been invited to the special meeting.
