FOREIGN. People with "integration needs" will be forced to work 37 hours a week to be entitled to benefits. The Danish Social Democratic government has now presented that reform proposal.
Behind the proposal are Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S), Minister of Finance Nicolai Wammen (S) and Minister of Labor Peter Hummelgaard (S), reports TT.
"The goal is for all citizens with an integration need - both new arrivals and people who have been in the benefit system for a long time - to be covered in the long term by the requirement of 37 hours of compulsory labor," the ministers state in a statement.
The work that immigrants must perform must make a positive contribution to the area where they live. According to the plan, 20,000 people will initially be covered by the reform. However, that number will increase gradually, writes TT.
