The Armed Forces: Does not have the resources to help against immigrant violence

In recent days, the Sweden Democrats' old proposal to let the military assist the police in the fight against immigrant violence has been re-actualized. At the Armed Forces, however, there are doubts as to whether they have sufficient resources to be able to help.

In his speech to the nation on Thursday, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) said that he had summoned the national police chief and the commander-in-chief to discuss how the Armed Forces could assist in the fight against gang violence.

- If we can support the police when internal security is shaken, we will do so, says ÖB Micael Bydén to DN.

Within the military, however, there is concern about what may lie ahead.

- As the development of the surrounding world looks like right now, we do not have resources to spare. If, for example, we were to move resources from our own protection objects to civilians, then we also have to prioritize between our tasks, says Carl-Johan Edström, head of the Armed Forces' operations department, to SvD .

He is supported by ÖB.

- The armed forces are not an enormously extensive organisation. If we do this, other things will have to take a backseat.

Highly unlikely
The ones that have been mainly discussed so far concern armed security guards who can guard civilian objects of protection, something that, however, requires a change in the law as it is currently a police task.

Both the police and the military see it as highly unlikely that armed military would be deployed to confront gang criminals.
