Nashville City Council Finally Approves Sign For Morgan Wallen’s Downtown Bar

Morgan finally getting his sign. Earlier this year, Morgan Wallen officially opened the doors to his new downtown Nashville bar, Morgan Wallen's This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen. But it didn't come without controversy, opening just a month after Morgan was arrested for throwing a chair off the rooftop of another lower Broadway bar. Amid the controversy surrounding his arrest, the Metro Nashville City Council was set to take up a request from TC Restaurant Group, the hospitality company behind Morgan's bar, for a sign that would hang in front of the bar. The sign was set to hang over the entrance, but because it encroached on a city right of way, the owners had to receive permission from the city council to install it. And as you may remember, the council was none too happy with Morgan at the time, not only for his arrest but also for his racial slur incident back in 2021, and ended up voting down the request for the sign. At the time, council member Delisha Porterfield was just one of many who cited Morgan's past behavior as their reason for voting against the sign: “We just passed legislation a little earlier tonight saying that we wanted to make sure that Nashville was a supportive place for everyone, so I don’t want to see a billboard with the name of a person who’s throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs and using the n-word, so I’m voting no.” Another council member claimed that Morgan doesn't "belong in this town," a claim that Morgan himself seemingly responded to on his Instagram story by posting a photo of one of his three sold-out shows at Nissan Stadium earlier that month: The council's decision to deny the sign didn't stop the bar from opening back in June, and every time I've been down to Broadway (which admittedly isn't all that often) it's been packed with a line out the door, so clearly people don't have the same concerns about Morgan's name on the bar as the Nashville council. And last night, 6 months after the bar opened its doors, the city council finally voted to allow them to hang their sign. The council voted 30-1 to allow the aerial encroachment, with the sole vote against the sign coming from Delisha Porterfield, one of the harshest critics of Wallen the first time around. There were six members who abstained from voting, and three who were absent from the meeting, but this time there was no discussion before quickly approving the resolution to allow the hanging of the sign from the front of the bar. The approval caps off a pretty big month for the country music superstar. Not only has Morgan recently wrapped up his record-breaking One Night At A Time tour, but he was also recently named Entertainer of the Year at the 2024 CMA Awards - an honor that Morgan has yet to acknowledge. Then last week, Morgan's felony criminal charges were reduced during a hearing that saw the singer plead guilty to two misdemeanor reckless endangerment charges, sparing him significant jail time as the judge sentenced Morgan to two years of probation and seven days to be served in a DUI education center. The same day, Morgan was one of the top winners at the Billboard Music Awards, taking home four awards for Top Male Artist, Top Country Artist, Top Country Male Artist and Top Collaboration for his hit with Post Malone “I Had Some Help." It's been quite the rollercoaster of a year for one of country music's biggest artist, but all in all, it seems like a pretty good month for Morgan to end 2024, all things considered.
