Nancy Mace Suggests Mysterious Drones May Be from ‘Outer Space’
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) suggested in a recent podcast interview on “OutKick” that the origin of mysterious drones spotted in the Northeast could include “outer space.”
She expressed doubts about government assurances that these sightings pose no threat and questioned the explanations provided so far.
“My concern is, if it’s not craft from outer space — because I think that has to be on the table. That has to be an option — is it our technology? Or is it Russia, Iran, or China? Is someone winning the arms race, and are we behind?”
Mace asked, raising national security concerns. She added, “I hope it’s us. I hope it’s not our adversaries or something from outside the universe. If these drones are from Iran or China, like some rumors suggest, I pray they’re ours, but we need to know why they’re out there. Are they looking for radiation? A missing nuclear warhead?”
Mace also noted that congressional offices have received calls from worried constituents about the increase in drone sightings.
“We deserve to have some answers here, because people are scared, and a lot of congressional offices are hearing people, they’re writing in with their concerns when they’re seeing these drones,” Mace said. “And quite frankly, I mean, Congress needs answers and the [Defense Department], the Pentagon, needs to come and tell us the truth.”
Federal officials, however, have downplayed the concerns. National security communications adviser John Kirby stated on Monday that extensive investigations of over 5,000 reported drone sightings found no indication of a public safety risk.
“In every case we have examined, we have seen nothing that indicates a risk to public safety,” Kirby said, adding that no evidence points to involvement by foreign adversaries or a national security threat.
Kirby emphasized that drones, including commercial and hobbyist ones, are common in U.S. airspace. “There are drones flying over the skies of the United States every single night and day. We’ve seen nothing in or around New Jersey that should concern people for their safety.”
A joint statement from the Department of Homeland Security, FBI, FAA, and Department of Defense later clarified that the sightings likely included lawful commercial drones, hobbyist drones, law enforcement drones, manned aircraft, helicopters, and even stars mistakenly identified as drones.
