Mayonnaise Salad Dressing
Mayonnaise Salad Dressing is a classic dressing that is ready in only 5 minutes and has a lovely, creamy texture that complements a variety of salads and other dishes!
A SIMPLE, CREAMY, HOMEMADE DRESSING
This particular dressing for Mayonnaise Salad Dressing (or a similar version of it) has been around for decades. It seems almost too simple really. It’s made with just a few simple ingredients so it is a really versatile, really simple dressing to make to top salads or to dip veggies (it is wonderful as a dressing for cucumber salad!) I think this was probably one of those dressings that was around before ranch dressing got to be so popular. One of my favorite things about making it from scratch is that it allows you to customize the flavor to make it exactly how you like it and is great to make in a pinch!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
What if I don’t have red wine vinegar? White vinegar could be used in place of the red wine vinegar. Do I HAVE to use the sugar? If you want to stick to the traditional way this recipe is made, leave the sugar in it. If you really want to, you can leave it out. I don’t think it makes this dressing just super sweet at all, I feel it’s sweet but a bit sour- kind of like cole slaw. If you don’t want that and want to leave the sugar out, you can, or you can use a sugar substitute. What can I use Mayonnaise Salad Dressing on? Obviously this salad dressing would be great on a variety of salads, but would also be great as a fresh veggie dip or to use in chicken salad. You could even use it as a spread on sandwiches. Let your mind feel the creativity here and try to find some new favorites. How many servings does this make? This recipe makes 2-4 servings, depending on what you’re using it for. How long is this dressing good for and what’s the best way to store it? Mayo Salad Dressing should be stored in an airtight container or jar and can be kept in the fridge for up to a week.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)
mayonnaise – use whatever brand of mayo you prefer and have on hand. While I don’t care for Miracle Whip, I do think you could use it if that is a taste you like. Miracle Whip is a bit tangy so you may want to start with less vinegar and add more to taste.
red wine vinegar – you could also use white vinegar or white wine vinegar.
finely chopped fresh parsley – this is optional. It gives it a slightly peppery taste and a little color. You could use dried parsley as well. If you have dill on hand, you could even use that.
white granulated sugar – this does not make it super sweet at all. Think of this as similar to a coleslaw dressing. A little sweet and a little sour.
kosher salt
garlic powder – you could use fresh garlic as well but it could end up being too strong a flavor and the powder does seem to blend a bit better.
