The wildfires in California have destroyed thousands of structures, including many homes. According to USA Today, the fires claimed more than 40,000 acres and killed at least 24,000 people. More than 100,000 people left their homes with nothing more than hope and prayers during mandatory evacuations. Sadly, too many returned to piles of ash and rubble. Although their material possessions burned, their memories remain. It will take years for the communities to rebuild and will rely on the strength and resilience of residents. Bette Midler shared an Instagram video of a family gathered at the site of their former home singing. It’s heartbreaking to watch but also has an air of hope. Even though their home no longer stands, the family is together. They are safe, and they are united. The video reminded one follower of a familiar scene. They wrote, “This reminds me of how the Who’s in Whoville sang praise on Christmas morning even tho their things had all been lost. Fah-who-fo-ray….! It always made me cry as a child……as this does now.” This person agreed, “Oh, my. This is a Whoville moment. How beautiful they sound in the midst of destruction. My heart aches for each and every being impacted by these horrific fires.” Christie Brinkley commented, “Oh my heart.. the spirit of resilience even in the darkest hour is humanity’s forté..and when we come together in harmony there’s nothing more touchingly beautiful.” Others noticed a religious symbol that appears to have survived the California wildfires. “The only thing that remained intact was a Statue of the blessed mother Mary.
