Jason Boland & The Stragglers Are Running From A Memory In Latest Single “Drive”

Jason Boland doesn't miss. With 10 studio records under his belt to date, you'd think there might be some misfires in his catalog, but that thing is rock solid from top to bottom. And with another album on the way, Boland shows no sign of slowing down or losing form any time soon. Marking his 11th record since releasing his iconic debut project Pearl Snaps in 2001, and his first studio album release since his 2021 concept record The Light Saw Me, Boland's next record The Last Kings of Babylon will include 10 tracks and is scheduled for release in its entirety on March 14. And if the first two singles are any indication, this album is going to be well worth the wait. Boland released the project's lead single "High Time" back in November, and his latest single "Drive" just hit streaming platforms earlier this week. A relatively rare outside cut for Boland, who typically writes his own songs, "Drive" was written by a trio of amazing songwriters in Jason Eady, Jamie Lin Wilson, and Kelley Mickwee, and the lyrics follow a narrator who's trying to outrun, or out drive, the memory of an ex-flame. Go ahead and give it a listen for yourself below: "So I'll drive where you can't find me Where those old winds don't call out your name And where I don't see your face In the cold light of dawn I'll hold stead down this road I'm on" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er6Q9mXJIMQ And while we're at it, check out the whole tracklist for The Last kings of Babylon, including the aforementioned lead single "High Time." "Next to Last Hank Williams" "Truest Colors" "Drive" "Take Me Back to Austin" "High Time" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSjRfnchfxg "One Law at a Time" "Ain't No Justice" "Farmall" "Irish Goodbye" "Buffalo Return To the Plains" It's only fitting that Boland covers a Red Dirt classic to close out The Last Kings of Babylon track list. "Buffalo Return To the Plains" is a tune originally performed by Jimmy LaFave, A Stillwater, OK legend and one of the forefathers of the Red Dirt music scene, and it's awesome that Boland is going to be bringing this one to a larger audience. Go ahead and give the original a listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpfZkX9tudU Jason Boland & the Stragglers are hitting the road hard over the next few months in support of The Last King of Babylon, so there are plenty of opportunities already scheduled to hear these songs live, and hopefully more to be announced as well. Boland and company put on an amazing live show, so you're not going to want to miss out if they're coming to a city near you.
