The Castellows Team Up With Flatland Cavalry For New Song “Place They Call Home”

The Castellows are enlisting the Lubbock-founded band Flatland Cavalry for a sensational new single, "Place They Call Home." 2024 was the year the Castellows gained recognition as they released their debut EP, A Little Goes A Long Way, followed by their second EP, Alabama Stone. The neo-traditional trio also found that their three-part harmonies paired incredibly with male vocals as they leaned into collaborations. They teamed up with Wyatt Flores for "Sober Sundays" and were also enlisted by Colby Acuff to accompany him on "How Do I Feel Alive."  The Georgia sisters are teaming up again with one of country music's favorite groups, Flatland Cavalry, for their first single of 2025. The group began teasing the single before the new year, sharing a clip of them singing in a green room with Flatland's frontman, Cleto Cordero. Almost instantaneously, fans of The Castellows and the Humble Folks knew this song would be something special. Thankfully, the groups did not withhold the track for as long as it was gifted to listeners today. "This song means so much to all of us. All of the writing and instrumentation was done completely by the 9 of us. When we were writing this song, we asked ourselves one question; ‘What would our world say to us if it could speak?’ Given everything that’s happened on our planet lately we think songs like this are so important. Many thanks from Flatland and The Castellows" https://www.instagram.com/p/DEz7XEDRvER/ The track written by Ellie Balkcom, Lily Balkcom, Powell Balkcom, and Cleto Cordero and produced by Dwight A. Baker perfectly fit both bands' sounds. The acoustic leading melody highlights the nine total musicians working effortlessly together to create a sound that beautifully accompanies the lyrics, posing the Earth as a person. The lyrics detail how Earth would describe its purpose if it were a person. Earth is set gazing at the stars at the song's start, noting slight religious undertones that a higher power has made the Earth's purpose to be the protector of the souls occupying it. "I was made to be walked on but I'll stand my ground To wandering souls that lost their way, know you're always found I was made to be walked on so go where you're gonna get to I'll always be around, I'm here for you I'm rivers, rocks and mountains, got no flesh and bones I ain't ashamed to claim the name 'Footstool to His throne' From lonesome plains to thundering rains, a peaceful spirit roams I'm a mother to His children, the place that they call home..." Although Earth was made to protect all of the souls living on it, Earth speaks that it does not like being fought on and wishes that everyone could coexist peacefully. The final line of "Till I'm not around, I'm here for you" highlights that although Earth might disagree with how humans treat it at times, it will do all it can to protect our souls. The pairing of Lily Balkcom and Cleto Cordero, who lead the vocals, leaves listeners with goosebumps. They sound like they've been singing together for years, a true match made in heaven. Knowing that both of these songwriters carry each word close to their hearts adds extra depth to their delivery. This song is profound, and given the conflict found across the world, it serves as a beacon of hope. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRJnhfM3iRc&t=1
