Man Kills Wife After “Paranormal Meter” Sparks Fear of Being Eaten
Jared Wolfe, 46, is facing seven charges, including first-degree murder, after allegedly confessing to killing Jane A. White, 46, on January 3.
According to police, Wolfe admitted to shooting White after becoming convinced his life was in danger while high at a friend’s house. Wolfe’s brother called 911 after Wolfe reportedly confessed to him, leading to his arrest.
At a hearing, Wolfe was ordered to stand trial on all charges, which include first-degree murder, third-degree murder, carrying a firearm without a license, aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.
Wolfe and White had been in a seven-year relationship and were at a friend’s house when the incident occurred. Wolfe initially told police they had smoked marijuana but later said he was unsure what they had consumed.
Court documents reveal Wolfe used a “paranormal meter” to check a statue for “energy” after smoking. He claimed he “received a high reading of paranormal activity,” which frightened him.
Wolfe told police he believed his friend was trying to harm him with a white rag, and he thought White and others were trying to “kill him and eat him.” In a panic, he retrieved a handgun from his car, despite not having a concealed weapon permit.
Wolfe stated that when White followed him and opened the car door, he fired in what he called self-defense, though he admitted she was unarmed. When asked if White might have been trying to leave with him, Wolfe reportedly responded, “That’s a good question.”
White died from a gunshot wound to the chest, and Wolfe fled to his brother’s house, where he allegedly confessed with the gun still in hand. His brother called 911, leading to Wolfe’s arrest.
Authorities recovered the murder weapon, an additional firearm, and the “paranormal meter” from Wolfe’s car. When asked why he didn’t help White, Wolfe reportedly said, “I was too messed up.” His defense plans to pursue a mental health defense. Wolfe is held in Northumberland County Jail without bail.
