Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) received a letter from Ed Martin, the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, regarding comments he made about Elon Musk. The letter cited Garcia’s “actual weapons” comment while conducting an interview with CNN. “He’s also harming the American public in an enormous way. And what I think is very important, and what the American public want, is for us to bring actual weapons to this barfight,” Garcia said. “This is an actual fight,” he added. Their concerns have led to this inquiry,” the letter read. “We take threats against public officials very seriously. We will not be silenced,” Garcia wrote. Earlier in February, Representative Nancy Mace, a South Carolina Republican, introduced a resolution condemning his remarks, writing in a post to X that he went “beyond the pale.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, also received a letter related to comments he made in 2020 that Supreme Court justices would “pay the price” if they overturned Roe v. At this time, I ask that you utilize me and my staff to assist in protecting DOGE work and the DOGE workers. Any threats, confrontations, or other actions in any way that impact their work may break numerous laws,” Martin wrote earlier this month. “Let me assure you of this: we will pursue any and all legal action against anyone who impedes your work or threatens your people.” Martin has made a habit of scanning his letters to Musk and advertising that they have only been shared via X, a platform owned by Musk.
