District Court: GP must disclose reader information
Published March 4, 2025 at 3:12 PM
Law & Justice. The District Court has decided that Göteborgs-Posten must release a list of which subscribers have been logged in and read an article about an explosion in Gothenburg in the spring of 2024.
According to Dagens Juridik, the decision covers over 100 people, whose names, social security numbers, contact information and IP addresses will now be disclosed to the prosecutor.
The purpose is to investigate a serious criminal suspicion linked to the explosion.
GP tried to limit the extradition by only releasing information about people of direct interest to the investigation, but this was rejected. The District Court believes that the information can be crucial as evidence and that there is a great public interest in solving the crime.
The prosecutor's interest therefore weighs "significantly more heavily" than the privacy of subscribers, according to the court.
