“What Happens When We Leave Our GoPro Unattended 30 Feet Under Water”
The world under our oceans is vastly unexplored. Divers experience some of the most impressive sights. However, their presence often disturbs marine life, limiting what they can observe. Divers at Maui Diving have discovered that leaving a GoPro camera unattended on a reef allows them to see much more. Turn the volume up to find out how loud fish can be.

These divers have made it a habit of leaving a GoPro unattended on every reef dive they conduct, and the resulting footage is astonishing. Each excursion nets at least 30 minutes of activity. It begins shortly after the divers swim away and continues until they return to recover the camera. You can find the edited versions on the Maui Diving TikTok page.
Our featured video begins with the diver placing the GoPro camera on the reef. As he swims away, small schools of fish are nearby. Activity picks up almost immediately, with larger schools of fish swimming in front of the camera. The area is teeming with a wide variety of species. Several large schools of fish and singular fish with bright colors swim into the area while the diver is still visible in the distance.

When the divers return to collect the GoPro, activity on the reef diminishes. Although a few fish remain near, most scatter into the depths. The footage Maui Diving captures is incredible and allows us an uninhibited view into life on a reef when humans aren’t around.
