Wisconsin Man Goes Viral For Legendary Chris Gaines CD Collection: “Garth Wants It To Be Forgotten, I Will Not Allow Such A Thing”
That’s one helluva connection.
Ah, Chris Gaines, the one-off rock and roll persona Garth Brooks created.
Brooks came up with the idea for Chris Gaines when pitching a motion picture, The Lamb. In the film, Garth would star as fictional rocker Chris Gaines, a sex-addicted rock legend who nearly had his face ripped off in a car crash and had an affair with his manager that caused him to lose his house.
Weird, right?

So Garth in promotion for the film, Garth put out a record as Chris Gaines titled, Garth Brooks in… the Life of Chris Gaines. They even shot a television “mockumentary” for the VH1’s “Behind the Music” featuring the crazy life story of Chris Gaines, and Gaines was even the musical guest on an episode of Saturday Night Live, which was hosted by Garth Brooks. All of this was to set the stage for this movie that was going to be released, but when the movie got scrapped, Garth was just left with this weird alter-ego and not much of an explanation.
But as much as Garth has more or less tried to shy away from the Chris Gaines era, some fans won’t let him live it down.
In a Physical Media Collectors group on Facebook, one user named Isaac Jakel shared his legendary Chris Gaines collection… of the singular record. But he keeps buying it repeatedly to ensure that Garth Brooks can never wash away who Chris Gaines is.
“Here is my Chris Gaines completionist set. At first it was to collect as many as I saw but now I’m collecting them out of spite because Garth Brooks refuses to put this album on any streaming platform. I do not spend more than $5 for one at a time. I say it’s a completionist set because the next one is one I do not have yet.
No this was not Garth cosplaying as Criss Angel, Garth initially made the album as a pitch for a movie and it was not picked up by a studio. The album itself isn’t bad, but it was completely different than people were used to from Garth so it was clowned on and Garth wants it to be forgotten. I will not allow such a thing. Not until he tells us where he hides the bodies.”
I have to say it’s impressive that he’s found this many CDs of the album for less than $5. Talk about being dedicated to your mission.
Of course, I immediately ran to the comments, which were filled with fellow Chris Gaines CD and vinyl collectors commenting about how many they’ve snagged over the years or asking if anyone has limited edition releases of the CD or vinyl.
Another fan, Adam Todd, commented:
“Top notch sir, I thought I was the only maniac that bought every copy of chris gaines when I come across it!”
In addition to comments from fellow collectors, there are also hilarious comments surrounding the reason behind this man’s mission: for Garth to expose where he keeps the bodies.
“A lot of people sleep on Chris Gaines. Glad to see that you don’t. Keep fighting the good fight, brother.”
“You’re making Tom Segura so hard right now.”
“When the studio didn’t pick up the movie, he should’ve switched gears immediately and just call it a Garth Brooks rock album.”
“The families need closure.”
“Where are the bodies, Garth? It’s about time.”
I honestly didn’t know that there were this many diehard Chris Gaines fans out there, but I’m sure glad there is…
More Chris Gaines Albums?
While I admire the fight that this man is fighting, Garth has been more open to the possibility of a comeback in recent years. In 2023, during a conversation with Billboard’s Country Live in Conversation, during the Q&A section, he said that he’s not done with Gaines.
“Yeah, there’s five of them. The five albums have to come out.”
But it doesn’t sound like we can expect them any time soon:
“I don’t know if it’s just because I’m 114, but now everything takes three hours more than it took time to do before. Business-wise I’ll say I’ve never been this busy before in my life, and I’m not as in the eye of the public as I was.
So I think what it’s telling me as an older artist, you have to work a lot, lot, lot – not work, put in more time – to get the same results. So the Gaines project was a lot of time put in because it’s not natural. You’re acting on record.
But I want to do it just simply for the people who love the Gaines project. Selfishly, I love the Chris Gaines record. So I want to do it for me.”
As someone who’s not mad at Chris Gaines’ music, I’m here for an additional five records.
